Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using Beacon ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, you may not use the Service. These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Beacon.
Description of Service
Beacon is an uptime monitoring and status page platform. The Service allows you to create monitors that periodically check the availability of URLs, build public status pages to communicate service health, and receive alerts via email or SMS when downtime is detected.
Account Registration
To use Beacon, you must create an account by authenticating through a supported third-party OAuth provider (currently GitHub or Google). By registering, you agree to:
- Provide accurate information as supplied by your OAuth provider
- Maintain the security of your account by protecting your third-party credentials
- Accept responsibility for all activity under your account
- Notify us immediately of any unauthorized use

Pro subscriptions are billed monthly through a third-party payment processor. You authorize recurring monthly charges until you cancel.
You may cancel at any time from your account settings. Pro features remain active until the end of your billing period, after which your account reverts to Free.
Beacon reserves the right to change pricing with at least 30 days' notice.

Intellectual Property
The Service, including its design, code, branding, logos, and documentation, is the property of Beacon and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws. These Terms grant you only a limited right to use the Service in accordance with these Terms.
User Content
You retain full ownership of all data you create through the Service, including monitor configurations, status pages, and incident reports.
By using the Service, you grant Beacon a limited, non-exclusive license to process, store, and display your content solely for operating the Service. This license terminates when you delete your content or close your account.
Service Availability
Best-effort availability
Beacon does not provide a formal SLA. We strive for high availability but cannot guarantee uninterrupted operation.
Scheduled maintenance, infrastructure outages, and force majeure events may temporarily affect availability. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of planned downtime.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Beacon shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, data, or business opportunities.
Total aggregate liability for any claims shall not exceed the amount you paid in the 12 months preceding the event.
The Service is not designed for high-risk environments requiring fail-safe performance.
Termination
You may close your account at any time through your settings or by contacting support. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately and your data will be deleted per our retention practices.
Beacon may suspend or terminate your account for violation of these Terms. Termination without cause will include a prorated refund of unused prepaid fees.
Changes to Terms
We may modify these Terms at any time. Material changes will be posted here with an updated date. For significant changes, we may send email notification. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
Governing Law
These Terms are governed by applicable law, without regard to conflict of law principles. Disputes shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation.
If negotiation fails, both parties agree to binding arbitration. Each party bears its own costs unless otherwise determined.
